Organics Trade Show Starts Today in Japan

2008-09-24

Five organic food companies from Paraná are participating in an international organics trade show beginning today (24th), in Japan, scheduled to last until Friday (26th).

“MV Export”, a company that produces organic products in Paraná is one of the five member companies of the Organics Brasil trademark participating in Biofach Japan (international organic products trade show), in Tokyo. The event begins today (24th) and ends Friday (26th). Participating of Biofach Japan is critical, since there is an increasing demand for organic products in the Asian market,” points out OrganicsBrasil executive coordinator, Ming Liu. In his opinion, Brazil is known abroad as an organic country by nature, and is the central focus of the most important discussions on this theme worldwide.

Developed from a partnership among the Development Promotion Institute (IPD), the Federation of Industries of the State of Paraná (Fiep), and the Brazilian Agency for the Promotion of Exports and Investment (Apex-Brasil), OrganicsBrasil has prompted businesses from Paraná and the rest of Brazil to exhibit at Biofach, every year. This effort is backed up by the Ministry of Foreign Relations, through the Brazilian Embassy in Japan.

According to Ming Liu, in 2007, more than 15 thousand people visited Biofach Japan. This year, two sectors stood out: cosmetics and foods. “These niches have been calling much attention. The beauty ideal and the conscious consumption concept provide more credibility and more space to the organic cosmetics industry. The difference about Brazilian companies lies in the composition of their formulas, which contain special regional ingredients such as Andiroba, Cupuaçy, and Acerola. Fruits and processed foods are also greatly valued,” explains Liu.

In Japan, the search for quality of life is a traditional philosophy, recognized for thousands of years, which strengthens the value added by organic products,” he emphasizes. In his opinion, this is a new sales opportunity for Brazilian products in a market in frank expansion.”

Besides MV Export – a coffee, ginger, Yakon potato, acai, and propolis export trading company – four additional Brazilian companies will also showcase their products at the trade show: Cia Orgânica; Surya; Florestas – with the Ikove brand -  and Natural Fashion.

Market – According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the national organics production accounts for US$ 250 million in annual trade, 70% of which in exports. “In the past ten years, the industry has been growing continuously. Biofach Japan will further increase this margin. We have been participating since 2006, and this year we expect business to expand,” says Liu. In his words, it is estimated that contacts made at the trade show will generate around US$ 1.2 million in business deals in the next 12 months.

The OrganicsBrasil brand fosters Brazilian certified organic products trade in the foreign market through participation in international trade shows, and trade missions.
