Nós Podemos Paraná Program Attracts Attention Abroad2008-09-24
The president of FIEP, Rodrigo Rocha Loures introduced the Nós Podemos Paraná program in a United Nations General Assembly parallel event, last Tuesday (23rd), in New York. “The interest shown by people on our work proposal was impressive. Participants in the event realized that it is possible to take actions to localities where central governments are unable to reach,” said Rocha Loures. “More than a declaration of good intentions, Paraná has taken action and that is why it attracted so much attention from the several participants in the meeting,” he added.
Besides the Paraná initiative, other action models were presented by India, the Philippines, Uganda, Rwanda, and Kenya. “What made our project stand out from the others were both the synergy among the public authorities, the corporate sector and civil society and the process of giving continuity and monitoring the results, which is carried out by Orbis,” declared FIEP’s president.
The meeting congregated representatives from 150 countries that have developed actions to meet UN’s Millennium Goals. In addition to the Nós Podemos Paraná project, Rocha Loures talked about other initiatives such as the three BAWB – Business as an Agent of World Benefit meetings promoted by FIEP in Paraná, and the Global Forum Latin America, held in June, in Curitiba, which urged universities to turn out better prepared graduates to face up to the sustainability challenge.
For IPD’s executive director, Carlos Gloger, the institute is proud of partnering with FIEP in each of these events, especially because IPD’s mission is to identify and develop innovative initiatives capable of contributing to a sustainable development model based on personal growth.
He goes on to explain that IPD – Development Promotion Institute is “an agent specialized in identifying and diagnosing social, environmental, and economic demands for both the government and civil society in its several production sectors. Orbis – Sustainability Indicators Base Regional Observatory is one of IPD’s programs supported by FIEP – Federation of Industries of the State of Paraná,” he adds.
He adds that IPD is prepared to develop work proposals with the most varied characteristics, since it has a flexible action scope that ranges from the micro to the macro, and vice-versa, in an intuitive and dynamic way. He says that “this reassures our partners that the proposals developed will meet both local and global demands.”
Gloger also explains that IPD is quick in presenting work proposals, and just as fast in delivering them with accuracy and on-demand. “Proposals are formatted to include a presentation and introduction; identification and diagnosis of demand; schedule of activities; detailed budgeting; and projection on expected results.
