Businesses join the Consumption and Trade Circuit

2008-05-06

Some of the advantages offered by this Transactions Network are interest-free trade credits and higher purchase liquidity, besides easier supply and demand circulation.

The Consumption and Trade Circuit Transactions Network (C3 Paraná) is already operative. Its purpose is to leverage and maximize corporate production capacity and eliminate financial costs from the productive chain. It also aims at stimulating the market and trade, the circulation of goods and services, and increasing corporate liquidity.

In order to bring this method to the state, businesses from several sectors created a non-profit association – C3 Paraná Association, in partnership with IPD – Development Promotion Institute, Fiep, and with the support of institutions like Sinduscon-PR, ACP, CREA, Aliança Empreendedora, AEEP, Afapar, and Sindimetal.

Other advantages include the interest-free trade credits, bigger sales opportunities, increased customer loyalty, reduced idle capacity, and more purchase and sale liquidity.

C3 Paraná is an invaluable instrument for increasing working capital and improving supply and demand circulation in economic sectors. It is a system where there is no need for cash for paying for goods and services. Instead, it is based on a trade debits and credits compensation system. This accounting tool is called Internal Liquidity, and consists of an amount, in Reals, in products and services that can be purchased by others. If the products and services are not purchased through the Circuit, the associated member can convert the internal liquidity into cash.

It is a method developed by the Dutch Strohalm Foundation – a worldwide success. The compensation system used to manage the transactions utilizes the software Cyclos, which was developed for the foundation and can be accessed through the Internet via computer or mobile phone. Every associated member has a personal account protected by two password levels for greater security.

The model launched in Brazil and in Paraná under the name Consumption and Commerce Circuit (C3 Paraná) was developed by InStroDI – Strohalm Institute for Integral Development, a Brazilian oscip (Social Civil Organization of Public Interest) headquartered in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, where it is in full operation through the “CompRaS” Circuit ( www.compras.org.br).

Even though this project is very innovative for Brazil, it is based on widely used systems in Europe and the United States. Furthermore, both the Strohalm Foundation and the Brazilian InStroDi Institute have partnerships with renowned investigators, and domestic and foreign institutions specialized in this area. Today, there are examples of wide non-monetary transaction networks such as WIR/Switzerland, with more than 75 member companies, with total transactions amounting to 1 billion Swiss francs per year (www.irta.-com).

Individuals and corporations can join C3 Paraná. After registering, the company will receive software access confirmation via email. The user will then be able to post purchase and sale ads and search for goods and services. Users may advertise their products and services through C3 Paraná’s e-commerce channel and search for third party products and services, free of charge. Internal regulation, statute, and membership agreement are available at www.c3parana.com.br.
