Belém Hosts Global Forum North

2009-09-11

After Curitiba, São Paulo, and the Northeast, Brazil’s North Region follows suit and prepares proposals in favor of a sustainable society.

About 400 entrepreneurs, executives, members of the academia, public authorities and civil society representatives from Brazil’s Northern Region will take part in the discussions of the Global Forum Latin America (GFAL) that starts Monday (14), in Belém, capital of the state of Pará, at “Estação das Docas”. During the event that ends on Wednesday (16), the participants will discuss the role of business education with a focus on sustainability.

Global Forum North is a sequel to Global Forum Latin America (GFAL), held in June of 2008, in Curitiba. The worldwide movement was brought to Brazil by the Federation of Industries of the State of Paraná System (Fiep) supported by the academic and business communities with the purpose of discussing the role played by business administration education with a focus on sustainability.

Fiep’s president, Rodrigo da Rocha Loures, will open the meeting by presenting an overall view of the actions already in place. “We realized that it was necessary to rethink how business administration is taught and the way to do it is by forming social learning networks that will have a positive impact on changes and on education,” says Rocha Loures. Similar meetings were held in Curitiba, São Paulo, and Paraíba, which engaged participants from all the Northeastern states.

One of the program’s highlights is the presentation of success stories about “How Sustainability Adds Value to Business” by 38 companies from seven different states.
