UNINDUS AND IPD OFFER CERTIFICTION PROGRAM IN CULTURAL BIOLOGY IN SÃO PAULO

The certification program aims at humanizing organizations. This is the program’s second edition in Brazil.

The Federation of Industries of the State of Paraná (Fiep), through Unindus (University of the Industry) and in partnership with the Development Promotion Institute (IPD) is accepting registrations for the second edition of the Certification in Cultural Biology program to be held in São Paulo (SP), at the end of this month (31st). The first edition was held at Unindus, in Curitiba (PR). A partnership with the Matriztico Institute, from Santiago, Chile, the program is taught by Humberto Maturana and Ximena D’ávila, known worldwide for developing and disseminating the Autopoiesis Theory that gave rise to Cultural Biology, and the certification program.

Classes start on August 10, at the Mercure Grand Hotel São Paulo Ibirapuera. The certification program lasts three years, with three meetings – totaling 40 hours – held each year. The meetings are supplemented by 108 hours of distance learning. During the course, three lines of work are developed: investigation of new biological and cultural knowledge and social practice. Other events such as talks, seminars, workshops, and guided technical tours are also part of the program, in addition to extension projects in partnership with universities, schools, business companies, and communities.

Cultural Biology focuses on human development and sees a company as a living organism made of people. According to Unindus’s director, Henrique Ricardo dos Santos, the program is especially geared to the industrial community, stimulating business leaders to humanize their organizations and improve productive performance. “The biggest challenge is how to accomplish technical and human management at the same time. The program provides subsidies for that to happen”, he says.

According to Maturana, Cultural Biology unites two lines of thinking: biological concern and social context. “It is the union of the biologic process with the mechanic one. Machines do not work without living beings”, he argues. His Autopoiesis Theory had a significant impact on the understanding of living systems, in the role played by communication and language in the evolution of the human species, and their impact on organizational life, social living, and the biology of knowledge.
